Contact MBR Health promptly
During opening hours, contact MBR Health for procedure-specific advice if you develop:
- pain that is increasing rather than settling;
- numbness or weakness that is not improving as expected;
- increasing redness, heat, swelling or discharge at the injection site;
- fever, chills or feeling systemically unwell;
- persistent bleeding or a rapidly enlarging bruise;
- a significant rash or suspected medication reaction;
- blood glucose that remains markedly above your usual management range after corticosteroid; or
- uncertainty about restarting medication, activity, driving or wound care.
Seek urgent medical assessment
Attend an emergency department or urgent medical service if you develop severe or rapidly progressive symptoms, including:
- new or worsening limb weakness;
- loss of bladder or bowel control, inability to pass urine or saddle numbness;
- severe headache after a spinal procedure, especially with vomiting, neurological symptoms or marked postural change;
- severe uncontrolled pain, rapidly expanding swelling or heavy bleeding;
- high fever, rigors or concern for a deep infection;
- new shortness of breath or chest pain after a procedure near the chest or upper back.
Call 000 for an emergency
- difficulty breathing;
- swelling of the face, tongue or throat;
- collapse, loss of consciousness or severe confusion;
- sudden chest pain or signs of stroke;
- rapidly progressive paralysis or another immediately life-threatening symptom.
What information should I provide?
- The procedure performed and the body region.
- The date and approximate time of the procedure.
- When the new symptoms began and whether they are worsening.
- Current medicines, particularly blood thinners and diabetes medication.
- Any fever, rash, breathing difficulty, weakness, numbness or bladder/bowel change.
Do not rely only on email
