Oncology imaging is not a single test. The right examination depends on the tumour type, the organ system, the stage of disease, prior treatment and the decision being made. Whole-body assessment may be appropriate for systemic surveillance, while dedicated regional imaging may be required when anatomical detail, local staging or treatment-response assessment matters.
INCIDENTAL BREAST CANCER ON SPECTRAL CT CHEST Small lesions, subtle recurrence, treatment-related change and incidental findings can all alter the next clinical decision. Precision oncology requires more than access to imaging — it requires the right protocol, the right field of view, the right interpretation and, where necessary, tissue confirmation.
Oncology imaging and biopsy pathways should be considered in the context of the patient’s treating doctor, specialist team and prior imaging. MBR Health supports diagnosis, staging and surveillance but does not replace the role of the treating oncologist, surgeon or physician.

Yes. A referral from your GP, oncologist or specialist is required for all cancer imaging services at MBR Health — including Whole Body MRI™, Whole Body Spectral CT and dedicated organ-specific cancer imaging. Your referral is yours to take anywhere and we welcome you to bring it to MBR Health.
Whole Body MRI™ uses no ionising radiation and provides superior bone marrow sensitivity and soft tissue characterisation — making it particularly valuable for haematological cancers, soft tissue assessment and patients requiring repeated surveillance imaging. Whole-body Spectral CT provides rapid multi-organ assessment with quantitative tissue characterisation, structured RECIST reporting and comparative imaging review — particularly valuable for lung, abdominal and pelvic oncology. Both can be combined in a single visit for the most comprehensive whole-body oncology assessment available in Australian private practice.
Medicare rebates apply to most diagnostic imaging examinations when referred by an eligible practitioner. Whole-body Spectral CT for oncology indications attracts a Medicare rebate with an out-of-pocket fee applicable. Whole Body MRI™ is privately billed. Our team will confirm all costs clearly before your appointment.
Please bring your referral, any prior imaging including PET scans and CT reports, relevant pathology results and a list of current medications. For oncology indications, prior imaging is particularly important — it allows our specialist team to interpret your findings within the full context of your diagnostic and treatment history, significantly enhancing the clinical value of your examination.
Most results are available within 2 to 5 business days and sent directly to your referring clinician. Complex oncology studies including Whole Body MRI™ may take up to 5 to 7 business days. Urgent cases are prioritised. Your report and images will also be accessible through the MBR Health patient portal following review.
