Hyaluronic Acid (HA)
Image-guided hyaluronic acid for osteoarthritis, joint pain & selected targeted treatments.
Why HA Starts With Diagnosis
Hyaluronic acid is not simply a lubricant.
It is a treatment that needs the right indication,
the right product and the right target.
Hyaluronic acid, or HA, is a substance naturally found in the body that helps lubricate, cushion and protect joints. In osteoarthritis and some other conditions, that natural environment becomes less protective, contributing to pain, stiffness and reduced movement. MBR Health’s current HA pathway is built around ultra-high molecular weight hyaluronic acid and image-guided delivery in carefully selected cases.
At MBR Health on the Gold Coast, hyaluronic acid is not used as a generic injection for pain. It is selected when the diagnosis, anatomy and treatment goal support a viscosupplementation or tissue-separation rationale — particularly in selected osteoarthritis, frozen shoulder and nerve-related hydrodissection pathways.

US-guided Platelet-Rich Plasma Knee InjectionWhat Makes HA Clinically Meaningful
Not all hyaluronic acid treatments perform the same. What determines clinical value comes down to how it is selected, formulated and delivered.
Formulation
The performance of HA depends in part on the product used. Molecular weight, cross-linking and viscosity can influence how the treatment behaves and how long it remains active at the target.
Indication
HA is more meaningful in the right clinical setting. Patient selection, joint choice and disease stage all influence whether the pathway is likely to be worthwhile.
Volume & Target
The amount delivered needs to suit the anatomy. A joint space, capsule and hydrodissection plane do not require the same treatment strategy.
Delivery Accuracy
HA is not a generic injection. Its effectiveness depends on whether it is delivered precisely to the structure actually being treated.
Who May Benefit
Hyaluronic acid may be considered for:
The information on this page is intended as general health information only and does not constitute medical advice. Hyaluronic acid therapy at MBR Health is performed following appropriate clinical assessment and referral from a treating GP or specialist. Suitability for hyaluronic acid therapy is determined on an individual basis taking into account your clinical history, imaging findings, joint assessment and treating clinician’s recommendations.
Hyaluronic acid therapy is not appropriate for all patients or all joint conditions. All procedures carry potential risks and benefits that will be discussed with you prior to treatment as part of the informed consent process. We encourage all patients to speak with their GP or specialist before pursuing hyaluronic acid therapy.
MBR Health does not guarantee specific clinical outcomes from hyaluronic acid therapy. Individual responses to treatment vary and results depend on a range of factors including the nature and severity of the underlying condition, joint health and individual patient factors.
- Knee Osteoarthritis
Selected knee osteoarthritis pathways where lubrication, cushioning and non-steroidal symptom management are the main objective.
- Frozen Shoulder
Selected cases of adhesive capsulitis where reducing stiffness and improving capsular movement are part of the treatment goal.
- Nerve Sheath Hydrodissection
Selected entrapment-related or irritation-related nerve pain pathways where HA is used to help separate a nerve from surrounding tissue.
- Joint-preserving Non-steroidal Pathways
Patients seeking a non-steroidal injection option where the diagnosis and anatomy support a viscosupplement rather than cortisone.
- Combined Biologic Pathways
In carefully selected cases, HA may sit alongside PRP where the treatment rationale includes both lubrication/cushioning and biologic tissue support.
“Hyaluronic acid therapy is not simply an injection. Molecular weight matters for clinical durability, and product selection matters for patient safety. We use ultra-high molecular weight, fully synthetic hyaluronic acid, delivered precisely under image guidance, because patients deserve a treatment selected on evidence.”

How Our HA Pathway Works
From assessment
to delivery.
Spectral CT-guided HA Injection Treatment Philosophy
Hyaluronic acid should follow the indication — not trend.
At MBR Health, HA is not offered as a generic injection for any painful joint. The first question is whether the underlying problem is one where viscosupplementation or tissue-plane separation makes clinical sense.
That means asking:
- Is this primarily an osteoarthritis pathway?
- Is the objective cushioning, lubrication and inflammation control?
- Is the anatomy suitable?
- Is a longer-acting ultra-high molecular weight
product preferable to a repeat-injection pathway? - Would HA work better alone, or as part of a combined strategy?
This is what makes the treatment considered rather than generic.
