Specialist Diagnostics
High-resolution imaging for clearer diagnosis, specialist interpretation and informed clinical decisions.
Our Approach
High-resolution imaging for clearer diagnosis.
At MBR Health, diagnostic imaging is not treated as a commodity. Each examination is selected and performed according to the clinical question — with attention to protocol design, image quality, specialist interpretation and the decisions that follow.
Precision Treatment
Treatment begins with knowing the source.
Our specialist diagnostics suite is a curated selection of complementary modalities, not competing technologies, chosen to work together and deliver diagnostic certainty. An advanced collection designed for diagnostic confidence, under specialist-led care.
01.
3T MRI
High-resolution MRI for soft tissue, brain, spine,
joints, nerves and oncology-focused assessment.
02.
Spectral CT
Advanced Spectral CT imaging that captures more diagnostic information in a single scan.
03.
Ultrasound
Real-time imaging for targeted diagnosis,
procedural guidance and dynamic assessment.
04.
DEXA
Precise body composition and bone density
assessment for metabolic and musculoskeletal health.
Research-Grade Diagnostics
Two scans, same name. Different clinical value.
Two scans can carry the same name yet deliver very different clinical value. Diagnostic performance depends on the protocol, acquisition, anatomical coverage, technical quality and specialist interpretation.
At MBR Health, imaging is approached as a clinical decision tool — not simply a scan.

Your results are explained clearly, with guidance
on next steps and long-term monitoring.
Common Questions from patients
Frequently Asked Questions
Is an MRI covered by Medicare?
Some MRI services in Australia attract Medicare rebates, but our advanced 3T MRI technology is not fully covered due to licensing restrictions. Scans at MBR are privately billed, allowing us to provide research-grade imaging with more sequences and higher resolution.
What is the difference between MRI and CT?
Spectral CT uses different energy levels to better differentiate tissues, improve contrast resolution and sometimes reduce the amount of iodine contrast needed. CT does involve ionising radiation, but our advanced scanner uses lower doses whenever possible. MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce highly detailed images of soft tissues, organs, joints and the nervous system. MRI does not use radiation and is particularly useful for detecting subtle abnormalities.
What makes Spectral CT different from standard CT?
Spectral CT can do everything a conventional CT can, and more. It provides material differentiation, improved sensitivity for cancer and vascular disease and multiple reconstructions from a single scan. This results in clearer answers, less radiation and reduced contrast dose compared to conventional CT.
Are Ultrasound scans bulk billed?
We do not routinely bulk bill ultrasound examinations. A private fee applies depending on the type of examination. Any out-of-pocket costs will be clearly explained at the time of booking.
Do I need a referral for a DEXA scan?
A referral from a GP or specialist is required for bone mineral density scanning to ensure the scan is clinically appropriate and to determine Medicare eligibility. No referral is required for a private body composition scan, though we also accept doctor referrals when body composition is part of a broader medical assessment.
